Get ready to have fun practicing colors with this great colorful game board and color cards. This 2 page kindergarten packet includes a gameboard and color cards for endless fun and color name practice. This kinder unit will definitely get your students motivated to learn through hands on activities that are so much FUN!
Mathematics and Literacy - fun and relevant? You bet, and hopefully this helps. This gorgeous unit of work covers many areas across the CCSS and Australian National Curriculum through 40 high-interest, engaging activity pages.
I trust you are able to make great use of it in your class or home. This unit is designed to look great in both color and grayscale. Some people are able to print in color, or have access to projectors or smartboards - so I wanted to provide for them. Yet, I’m very aware of printing constraints and I’m confident you will be happy with how it looks printed in grayscale if you can’t justify the color version. This unit could be used like a booklet or you could print and use whichever lessons you need. I was also careful to use non-specific UK/US spelling.
The unit is available for purchase now, with updates through August. That allows me to put finishing touches on pages and add more content. When complete, it should be approx. 40 pages of high-interest activities and worksheets. In the meantime - enjoy the sample!
Please feel free to ask any questions and leave feedback on the product page!
Fry's first 104 high frequency words are included, as well as instructions on how to play the traditional game of concentration (or memory). Concentration is an engaging way to help kids gain exposure and practice with the words we use most often! These cards may also be used as flash cards!
Revised version now has 12 test prep tournaments. Students will have fun reviewing for your state's standardized tests, district tests, and classroom tests. The 72 pages include football, baseball, and tic-tac-toe game boards & specific directions for 12 tournaments.
The tournaments may be used for any grade and any subject, but you need to supply the questions you want your students to study. Go to the Internet to access your state's released questions of past standardized tests. Use questions from test prep booklets or your classroom textbooks. Write your own questions to review the skills you want your students to learn.
Students may review spelling words, vocabulary definitions, and important events in social studies in whole class tournaments or at a learning center. Students may work in cooperative groups to solve computation problems or word problems.
These tournaments work! When comparing my students' California Standards Test scores with me and how they had done the year before, one student went from Far Below Basic in second grade to Below Basic to Basic to Proficient with me in third grade and went up three levels. Three of my students went up two levels. Nine of my students went up one level. Three students stayed in their same level from second grade to third grade (one student was Proficient and stayed Proficient & two students were Advanced and stayed Advanced.) The final student in my class last year did not have a second grade test score, but scored Advanced in my class. I receive similar test scores each year.

FREE - Kids love magnets! This is a quick and easy science center activity. I copy the first two pages on the front and back of a piece of tagboard and then laminate it to last a long time.
You will need some magnets and some small objects that are attracted to magnets and some that are not. The kids can observe and test the "attraction," then go further to see if they can affect the attraction with wood, paper, plastic or cloth. Then they can record their findings - just like a real scientist!
For the "mazes," you will need some stiff cardboard pieces, the same size as a piece of paper. Copy the maze onto regular copy paper, have the kids cut out their mouse or car, then pin a paper clip onto it. Place the maze on top of the cardboard and put the paper clipped piece on START. Then put a magnet under the cardboard and the kids can "pull" their piece around the maze to the end. Try it - you'll have fun, too! I let the kids make their own mazes and then share with each other. They really enjoyed it!

I have a very simple positive behavior reward system in my classroom. I give out reward “Super Star Tickets” for positive behavior. When students earn 10 tickets, they can trade them in for a prize drawing slip. At the end of each month, I hold a class drawing and choose 3 drawing slips to choose an item from my prize box.
This system works well for me because I can give out as many tickets as I want, but only 3 prizes are needed at the end of the month. The extra step of turning in 10 tickets to earn a drawing slip seems to motivate students by making it a little more challenging to enter the drawing. They like trying to “save up” for a prize drawing slip.
TpT sellers have been busy this summer, and for good reason!

The CCSS “lay out a vision of what it means to be a literate person in the 21st century.” Integrating film into your curriculum is an excellent way to satisfy many of the new Common Core State Standards.
You don’t need to show entire films, just short clips of these films, to develop competences deemed essential in the new CCSS guidelines.
INCLUDED IN THIS UNIT ARE THE FOLLOWING:
➢ A PREZI with clips from the film
➢ A multiple choice quiz with six questions and answers
➢ Vocabulary – definitions for words that are crucial for understanding the Holocaust
➢ Information on Oskar Schindler

I have another TpT unit on Schindler's List - this more in-depth unit combines the questions that are included here and adds other questions and competences.
I teach SCHINDLER'S LIST as a TEXTURE TEXT or a CONTEXT TEXT usually alongside THE REPUBLIC. It is an excellent film to use when studying philosophical concepts including, but not limited to, the following: morality, ethics, sacrifice, freedom, courage, and the power of hope.
If you are interested in engaging your students in higher order thinking (focusing on texts and ideas that raise questions regarding justice, mercy, power, ethics, and hope) please FOLLOW ME to be informed of my upcoming units on Plato's Republic and Nietzsche's Thus Spake Zarathustra. I have several posted already. See the following:
