FREE LANGUAGE ARTS LESSON - “Non-Fiction Text Feature Checklist/Scavenger Hunt”

by Audrey Kuhn
1st - 5th Grade

This is a worksheet to be used when learning about text features.  This scavenger hunt goes along with the Non-Fiction Text Feature Poster set.  This could be used as a center activity once the text features are taught.  This helps to encourage students to pay attention to text features as they read non-fiction rather than skip over them.

FREE MISC. LESSON - “My First Crossword Puzzle”

by Christine Maxwell
Pre-Kindergarten - 1st Grade

This is a beginning crossword puzzle.  It can be done one-on-one, small group, or large group.  The smaller the group, the easier to teach and observe.

The first letter of each box is typed that color, so the child knows where to start spelling the word.

The color words are on the paper to help spell the words correctly.

The numbered box is beside the word to help them locate the same square on the grid and the direction to write the word.

They will probably notice that the black and brown start in the same square, but the box is brown.

It can be used to instill the love of words, along with the educational benefits.  Enjoy!

FREE MATH LESSON - “Number Cards with 10’s Cubes for Visual Supports”

by Krystie Bithell
Pre-Kindergarten - 1st Grade

As a special education teacher I am constantly making visuals for my students.  Visuals are amazing at increasing receptive language!  I decided to make these (which I printed as flashcards) to help one of my students understand 1:1 correspondence, while working on number recognition.  They kill two birds with one stone!   These cards helped her a lot and I hope they will be helpful for your students as well.

You can print them and put them up as part of your number wall, use them as flashcards, or even do flashcard games with them.  The possibilities are endless.

Enjoy,
Krystie Bithell

FREE LANGUAGE ARTS LESSON - “Character Book Project”

by TC Booth
2nd - 4th Grade

This book project can be used to assess the common core reading standard of literature #3 where students are being asked to describe a character in depth.

The book project contains pieces that can be cut out and displayed on poster board or construction paper.  The project asks the students to analyze a character’s traits and feelings throughout the story and support with text evidence.  The students also give the story a star rating and include a picture of the main character.

FREE SOCIAL STUDIES LESSON - “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (Movie Qs for before and during)”

by Erin Schneider
6th - 9th Grade

Great to use with Exploration!!!  This 20 question handout was created as a before and during viewing guide for the Disney movie, Pirates of the Caribbean:  On Stranger Tides (PG-13).  Half of the questions are to be answered before the students view the movie (questions are marked before or after).  These questions require the students to research (on their own time, probably using the Internet) Ponce de Leon, The Fountain of Youth, Pirates vs. Privateers. etc.  The other half of the questions guide the students through the viewing of the movie.  I chose to go over the “before” answers as a class prior to watching the movie.  This provided us with good teaching/learning moments.  A few of the questions require students to circle places on the included maps.

A key is included, as is a “notes to the teacher” page.

Take a look and download.  Remember if you rate the product you get TpT credits.  Thank you!

FREE MISC. LESSON - “Link Learners to Lessons”

by Ellen Weber
7th - 12th Grade

Talent Inventories can be used to develop students’ interest and capabilities as well as to adapt lessons for desired outcomes.  It could be as simple as asking a learner who is interested in aeronautics to give a speech on a related topic as an alternative task to fulfill course objectives.

The Talent Inventory provides quick and up-to-date reference notes about students who seem bored, those who appear disengaged, or those ready for further challenges.  They can be used individually to link content to students’ curiosity-building opportunities.  Faculty can skim the entire classes’ inventories, as a tool to tweak lessons.  Use this survey to fit updated facts and figures into a lesson, as well as to help students extend content into their realities beyond class.

FREE SCIENCE LESSON - “Science Interest Inventory”

by The Science Penguin
3rd - 6th Grade

This Science Interest Inventory Freebie is designed for upper elementary grades.  I love using interest inventories to find out my students’ attitudes toward science and their preferred methods of instruction.

While it doesn’t affect WHAT is taught, it does affect HOW I teach it.  If no one finds landforms interesting, I know that I will have to find a more engaging way to teach that concept.  If everyone enjoys working in groups, I can use cooperative learning more often.

Visit The Science Penguin to find more ideas and products!

FREE LANGUAGE ARTS LESSON - “Boggle Your Mind”

by Miss Martin
2nd - 4th Grade

This is a Boggle page that I made for my classroom.  I use letter magnets on a grid made of colored masking tape on the board and my students copy the letters onto the grid on their page.  I print this onto colored paper, cut it in half, and it is easy for students to grab and use!  It is super easy to differentiate with this - some students may only need to find 12 words and can use 2 or 3 letter words, for example; other students have to find all 16 and have to list only words with 4 or more letters!  Use it according to your students.

With this download, you will receive the Boggle Your Mind page (printed 2 to a page), teacher directions, tips for differentiation, and 30 sample grids that have been teacher-tested, to make creating your grid each time so much easier!
