This unit includes tons of integrated plans, links to activities and movies, a student research booklet, note taking forms, research paper templates, a slideshow rubric, 22 lessons clearly explained, a world map introduction, graphing, and a test. drawing, then trades, and some one else does the other half - thus, the title of

"Halfway crazy Creature"!

 

*It is also fun to have the children write a description or story about the

final crazy creature, when they see it opened up with both halves showing.

The children will love this lesson plan, as they create a simple "back to school" craftivity of Clifford, as a puppy, after the class reads the story Clifford's First School Day, by Norman Bridwell.

Poetry Lesson - "Social Justice Poetry"

This common core aligned poetry unit enables students to understand what is meant by identity and how poetry can be used as social commentary. They will build on their poetic vocabulary in order to recognize how poetic devices can be used to enhance meaning and will demonstrate that knowledge through daily writings, quizzes, class discussion, group activities, and a final essay or presentation. The package includes answer keys for all quizzes as well as a rubric for grading the final essay. This is a great lesson for middle school students and can easily be adapted for use in high school or even college classrooms. It's one of my students' favorite lessons. Find it at

Poetry Lesson - "Close Reading Poetry Activity"

9th-12 Grades

In this close reading activity, students will visually illustrate a poem in order to better grasp its meaning. Students may illustrate the poem on poster board with a collage of images from newspapers and magazines, a Power Point slide presentation, or shoot their own video. They can include audio if they so choose. It’s really up to you to determine exactly what format your students should use.

The lesson provides a Power Point Presentation using “Dover Beach” by Matthew Arnold as an example. Also included is a copy of the poem, lecture notes, and suggested poems. This activity can be used with almost any poem and adapted to learners of all ages.

Give your students a solid foundation in the ways a poet uses sound to enhance meaning with the activities in this lesson. The editable Power Point presentation provides definitions and examples of poetic devices such as alliteration, enjambment, onomatopoeia, free verse and many others. Fun-filled activities give students practice in recognizing the poetic devices presented and allows them to try their hands at writing poems using those devices.
