by Margo Gentile
2nd - 6th Grade

Here is one page from my much larger product February Daily Multiplication Packets Valentine/Winter Themes...Appropriate for the Valentine holiday and any student(s) who need more practice with the 6x table. The students might like to do more than one of these with their "unique design". They might choose to color one page with traditional valentine colors and another page in multicolors. That's okay-they're getting more exposure to the 6x table in a "painless" way!

FREE LANGUAGE ARTS LESSON - “Transportation Opinion Writing FREEBIE”

by Sherry Clements
Pre-Kindergarten - 2nd Grade

The topic for this opinion writing resource is "transportation (a plane or a car)." These opinion writing activities are great to put in a writing center for students to choose which pictures to use to give their opinions about or for a mini lesson on opinion writing. This resource includes one page with picture choices of a plane or a car). The page says “Which do you like better? Why?” then it has five blank lines for students to write on to tell why they think their choice is the best. Students love telling which item they like better. This activity encourages students to give the reason why they think their choice is better. Teachers can also use these writing activities as a whole class activity. Assigning these activities for a homework assignment can include parents in helping increase their child’s writing skills. However you choose to use these activities, I hope your students develop a love for writing.

By Teach To Tell
Grades 3-6

Flipbooks are undeniably known for their versatility. They scaffold the structure of a piece of writing, be it a persuasive, narrative, biography or an informative report. Needless to say, they are also a handy visual tool, and look simply impressive.

They can be used for just about any subject or topic:

1.  Scaffolding the structural components of a writing genre.

2.  Helping students organize/organise their writing in an Informative Report.

3. Writing a Book Report.

Interestingly, the templates other than scaffolding structural elements, also serve as a means of collating information in addition to drafting and editing.

Hispanic Americans Biography

Once students have edited their writing for accuracy then they can refer to their flipbook when publishing.

The templates also serve a dual purpose. Other than compiling them to create a flipbook, they can also be glued into an Interactive Notebook.

If creating a flipbook, the templates simply need to be stapled at the top.

Mother's Day Writing Poems

The interactive notebook requires gluing at the top tabs after arranging in descending order. The last template is glued down first, followed consecutively by the rest.

Planets of the Solar System Flipbook

Preparing the flipbook templates take a reasonable amount of effort, but the finished product is worth the time spent.

I have my students first cut out and assemble the templates to compile the flipbook. Then they work at their own pace researching and finishing each section. This will be their first draft.

Once all sections of the flipbook are completed, students use the checklists to self-edit and peer-edit.

Finally, students publish their research on lined publishing sheets. They refer to the edited information collated in their flipbooks.

ELA/Writing; Grades 7-10

This three-passage text set is accompanied by an argumentative prompt regarding a topic in which many of your students will be interested: college sports. It's a great assignment to engage students and help them work on the skill of finding and citing information from the text provided, rather than relying on their own prior knowledge or feelings about the given topic. Modeled after AIR Testing, which is used in numerous states across the country, it would also fit well into a PARCC simulation. The text set, itself, is 5 pages long.

Use the colorful version of this product to print, laminate and prepare file folder activities for your students. Directions for each page contain thematic vocabulary and spatial concept terms including "on top", "next to", "under", "left", "right", "close to" and more.
