FREE LANGUAGE ARTS LESSON - “Thanksgiving Word Challenge”

by Amy Biddison
2nd - 5th Grade

Use this fun Thanksgiving Word Challenge to engage your students in working with sounds and words. Students will use the scrambled letters from two common Thanksgiving phrases to create as many other words as they can. The second goal is to decode the scrambled letters to figure out the challenge phrases.

This is a great activity to do whole class, individually or as a word work center. Make a game out of it by challenging students to create as many words as they can that other students do not have. When done, call out the words and if someone else has the word everyone must cross it off. The student with the most unique words wins!

2nd - 4th Grade

When students have to tell how to do something step by step, sometimes they need some guidance. This Power Point will help you to introduce the topic and work with younger writers to create how-to writing. Writers will be walked through each step, such as brainstorming ideas for a how-to piece, writing their title, and breaking the activity down into step by step directions.

FREE SOCIAL STUDIES LESSON - “Japanese Internment Camp Human Rights Activity”

by Different Drummer Secondary English
7th - 11th Grade

**Satisfies the Common Core Requirement Reading Standard for Informational Text Integration of Knowledge and Ideas #9 for 9th-12th grades.

This worksheet can be used in a variety of ways.

If you teach Social Studies, this can be used as a supplemental activity when discussing Japanese Internment camps and the violation of Japanese-American human and constitutional rights.

If you are reading or plan to read Farewell to Manzanar, you can use this worksheet to see the internment of the Japanese and Jeanne from the point of view of human and constitutional legality of their internment.

This activity asks students to use the Declaration of Independence as a primary resource document to help them figure out which rights they believe are the most important to American citizens and human rights in general. They are then asked to try to analyze the Japanese internment from a legal and personal standpoint. In addition to short answers, students are also required to create well-developed paragraphs exploring their personal beliefs to come up with their own point of view.

FREE LANGUAGE ARTS LESSON - “FREEBIE Trial of Swapping Sounds Task Cards for Struggling Spellers”

by Susan Berkowitz
2nd - 4th Grade

Students who struggle with spelling, including those with dyslexia, often have difficulty with hearing the sounds in words and - more importantly - where those sounds move and change - to create other words.

Here are 12 free cards from the 90 practice word sets in the paid resource, which can be used as task cards or game cards or simply a prompt for teachers to provide spoken trials in class or intervention.
These may be useful to reading teachers, speech-language pathologists, and classroom teachers who work with students who struggle with encoding/spelling. The full set is available here. swapping sounds

These cards are aimed at students in grades 2 and higher who have difficulty with spelling. If you want a similar product for grade 1, try my Word Families Task/Game Cards:

The cards provide an initial word, spelled out, and a picture cue for the new word to be spelled. If you want to use these as task cards, you can laminate them and have students use china markers (or other easily erasable pencils/markers) and provide clothes to wipe them off.

For even more practice, check out my app for the iPad: SoundSwaps

which provides practice with word families, changes in initial and final sounds, changes in vowels, and random changes. From

FREE MISC. LESSON - “Behavior Reports in English and Spanish”

by Ruth Edge
Pre-Kindergarten - 2nd Grade

Weekly Behavior Reports with a teddy bear theme are available here in English and Spanish. What Kind of Day Did I Have? and What Kind of Day Did I Have in Kindergarten are both in this file so that it can be used for any primary grade or even Pre-K. The Spanish translation has really helped me since I teach in a school with a high concentration of Spanish speaking ELL students. This helped me better communicate with all my parents and behavior issues have dropped significantly. I hope it helps you also.

Please rate my work and follow me. I have several more FREE products in mind and will get them on here soon. My followers will see them here first.

FREE LANGUAGE ARTS LESSON - “The Day After Halloween Creative Writing Activity”

by Tracee Orman
3rd - 10th Grade

Are your students still talking about Halloween? A little sluggish from candy overload?

Try this fun activity that lets them talk a little more about one of their favorite holidays, yet allows them to practice great critical and creative thinking skills.

You can use the writing prompt in conjunction with a literature or history unit. They'll have to tell about a character's or historical figure's night out trick-or-treating. It's fun and gets them writing. (And it's free!)

This is great for a bell-ringer, exit-slip, or journal-writing activity; or have them write even more and tell an entire story. I included several different printables. To save paper, you can project it and have them use their own journals or notebooks.

FREE MATH LESSON - “FREE Halloween Treats Survey and Bar Graph Activity”

2nd - 6th Grade

Here is a fun activity for Halloween. Students do the first part as homework, polling friends and family members about their favorite Halloween treats and keeping track of answers with tally marks. The second part of the activity involves using the data to create a bar graph. Older students could enter their data on Excel to create a graph.

There are several other Halloween freebies in my store.

FREE LANGUAGE ARTS LESSON - “‘Fall Into Order!’, Differentiated Center ABC Order, Common Core Aligned”

by Differentiation Station
1st - 2nd Grade

"Fall Into Order"- A fall themed, differentiated center/game that focuses on putting words into ABC order. This game is great for 1st and 2nd graders of differing abilities. It is also appropriate for a school or homeschooled setting, as well as, for special education instruction. In one center, students are able to physically manipulate the words to help make the activity more concrete.

Common Sore Standards:
CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RF.1.1 Demonstrate understanding of the organization and basic features of print.
CCSS.ELA-Literacy.L.1.1 Demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English grammar and usage when writing or speaking.
CCSS.ELA-Literacy.L.2.2 Demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English capitalization, punctuation, and spelling when writing.

Students will physically manipulate words to put them in alphabetical order, or place the words in alphabetical order when looking at a list. Students will complete an extension activity to demonstrate their understanding.

- Alphabet Mat (pg. 3)
- Fall themed word cards (pg. 4-5)
- Extension Worksheet for Word Cards (pg. 6)
- Fall themed word lists (pg. 7)
- Extension Worksheet for Word Lists (pg. 8)

- Print out word cards, list, mat, and extension activities.
- Students can complete this activity in a center or small group.
When using word cards, students will find four cards of the same color. They will place all 4 cards on their alphabet mat. They will use the alphabet at the top of the mat to place the words in ABC order.
- Students will record their answers on the extension worksheet and choose two of the fall themed words to write a sentence on the back of the worksheet.
- For students, who are more comfortable with ABC order, they can use the word lists and place the words in ABC order. There is an alphabet at the bottom of the extension worksheet to help them. Students will record their answers on the extension worksheet and write a sentence with two of their words.

I am so pleased to share some different center ideas with you. I am passionate about differentiation and believe that it is so important to make it easier for the classroom teacher to differentiate. I hope that my centers save you some time and provide your students with enjoyment!

Please leave feedback for my product. I am thrilled to receive your feedback, suggestions, and requests. I look forward to working with you!
