Get ready for back to school with this Free Daily Writing Prompts with five prompts for SeptemberThese engaging quick write prompts are inspired by the national calendar of days to help students practice writing every day. It's perfect for grades 3, 4, and 5 and for substitute days!


This is one week of writing prompts and can be used for a week of writing lessons. It's part of my full month of September Daily Writing Prompts.

The writing prompts for September cover:

These five September writing pages are ready for you with suggested website links. As the teacher you manage the links. They are not necessary, but you can use them to build background knowledge. A self-editing toolkit is included so students can learn to self-edit and peer-edit. This writing journal is a great way to integrate writing into lifelong learning habits.

How does the self-editing toolkit work?

The digital version of this workbook includes a self-editing toolkit. Students use to drag and drop highlighter bars across their work. The highlighters help them find and correct their errors.

Finding new writing prompts can be time consuming, and I know you're busy. So I’ve done the work for you to find interesting topics. I’ve included a page of suggested links to videos and websites to enrich the writing experience. It connects the students to the real world, letting them enjoy authentic writing tasks. The links are age appropriate for students in grades 3-5. Some of the September writing prompts:
