FREE LANGUAGE ARTS LESSON - “Crime and Punishment Part 1 Analysis Questions”

by Adam Horowitz
12th Grade

These questions are all designed to assist students in getting the most out of reading Dostoyevsky’s novel, with an emphasis on higher order thinking, Advanced Placement literature analysis expectations, and basically a college-level approach to closely reading literature.

I have been teaching AP Lit. for 9 years and have been running a very successful program (there are no prerequisites to take the class, and typically I have pushed 50 or more kids per year with varying backgrounds to meet or exceed the national passing rates). I have a Masters in Creative Writing, and thought I would make some of my materials available for purchase.

If you end up using the materials, let me know how things go for you. My name is Adam Horowitz, and I'm a sixteen year educator. You can e-mail me at adam.horowitz@browardschools.com.

Note that these analysis questions include page numbers for Sidney Monas translation of Crime and Punishment by Signet Classics. It is possible to still use these questions with other translations, however, the page numbers given as hints for finding the answers will be a bit off.

Finally, I have constructed a test that is made of a sampling from all the analysis questions I've written, with an additional essay component.
