Following Directions Cut and Paste House Theme

Enjoy this versatile "House themed" Following Directions activity with your students. Use the black and white version of this product for a simple print and go activity for your students. Use the colorful version of this product to print, laminate and prepare file folder activities for your students. Directions for each page contain thematic vocabulary and spatial concept terms including "on top", "next to", "under", "left", "right", "close to" and more.

Contents and Directions

•10 house themed colorful picture scenes with small coordinating pictures and directions. (backyard, bathroom, bedroom, dining room, doghouse, front yard, kitchen, laundry room, living room, school/play room)

•Black and white matching pages provided for an easy print and go option.

To use the black and white version of this product, simply print the picture scene pages and corresponding picture/direction pages and go. Students can work independently cut apart pictures, read directions and glue on corresponding picture scenes. Dashed lines are provided, but I find it is helpful to cut in closer to smaller pictures for better placement on the paper. Provide assistance as needed with reading and/or cutting for students who may need it.

To use the colorful version of this product, simply print the picture scene pages and corresponding picture/directions pages and go just as instructed above for the black and white pages. Then laminate and cut apart small pictures and directions and assemble on file folders using Velcro, or attach using rings, or keep pieces loose and organized in envelopes.

This is my FREE Valentine Edition of the 1st Grade Common Core Morning Work. It includes both English Language Arts & math. Every problem is coded with its Common Core State Standard. It has a complete answer key! This one week of CCSS morning work is great to use during the week of Valentine's Day! It is a sample of my yearlong units as described below:

Let your first graders' morning work actually work for them to master essential Common Core English Language Arts and Math skills by the end of the year through continual daily review. This strategy always produced amazing results with my students, because they didn't forget what they had learned.

Common Core State Standards covered include:

*ELA - L.1.1, L.1.2

*Math - All Grade 1 Standards as the year progresses

The Language Arts Daily Edit portion of each printable provides two sentences to be edited (using editing marks) and then rewritten correctly as edited. It is more than just a simple "Fix the Sentence" activity. The sentences are designed to practice and spiral review the ELA Common Core Standards of editing, grammar usage, capitalization, punctuation, and spelling patterns. The comprehensive daily editing increases in difficulty and becomes

second-nature over time, which helps to strengthen writing abilities in all areas. The sentences are aligned with the READING STREET reading series units, but can be used effectively with any second grade language arts program.

The Math Review portion is designed to practice and spiral review ALL First Grade Common Core Standards in a repetitive format that increases in difficulty over time, including 5 addition and/or subtraction facts on every page.

STEM Challenges with the Pigeon

I like to start most lessons with a read aloud!  Everyone loves a story.  STEM lessons can come to life with a read aloud to start it off!  The pigeon is always funny and a great way to kick off a STEM lesson.
