Yes and No Questions Kit

This Yes/No Questions Kit contains a variety of materials and a systematic way to target and track progress on answering yes and no questions. Many of my students with significant language disorders and children with autism have difficulty answering yes/no questions. 

Level 1: Targets the most basic yes/no questions related to a child's wants and needs. Suggestions and visuals for yes/no to use in small group or 1:1 instruction and for display throughout the classroom are included.

Level 2: Targets yes/no questions to identify known items. Included in this level are suggestions for implementation as well as possible modifications, visually appealing yes/no question cards, receptive/expressive vocabulary screener and data collection sheets.

Level 3: Targets yes/no questions about general knowledge and opinion. Included in this level are suggestions and ideas for implementation, visual yes/no question cards and data collection sheets.

Formulating Questions

Many of my students with language disorders have difficulty formulating questions. This kit contains 45 answer cards (with colorful pictures) and 45 question cards. A mini poster with "Words that Begin Questions" is included, as well as an answer key. 
To prepare this product, simply print, cut apart and laminate the cards and you are ready to go. 

There are several ways to use this card set. 

Option #1: Present the answer cards to students, and ask them to come up with logical questions to match the answer cards. The point is to try to generate questions using correct form and question type. There will be many possible correct questions to each “answer”. Cue or prompt verbally and/or show the “Words That Begin Questions” mini-poster visual included with this product. Kids can give answers verbally or for more practice or to make this an independent activity, they can write out the questions in a notebook or on whiteboards.

Option #2: Use the question and answer cards together using a matching format. To do this, place cards face up on the table (or face down if you want to use a game format), and ask the child to find logical matches with question and answer cards. Because there are so many cards, it may be easier to present 10 at a time, but that is your choice. 

Option #3: Present the question cards to students and ask them to generate logical answers. This was not the original intent of the product, but it can be used this way. Since I usually have groups of kids with a variety of language goals, this allows for some flexibility in targeting goals and addressing asking and answering questions.
There are some answer cards that may match multiple question cards and vice versa. Use your own discretion for acceptable answers. For example, the question card “Where did the man put his money?” could match the answer cards “in his pocket” or “on the top shelf”. An answer key is included to show the intended question and answer matches, although you can be flexible with this.

Exploring Poetic Imagery Through John Legend, Alicia Keys and More - $2

A great way to develop your student's analytical skills in a contemporary way. Activity one explore similes about love taken from 19 classic and contemporary songs including Alicia Keys, 50 cent and Beyonce. Activity two sees these similes grouped according to the imagery they create. Activity three has pupils making inferences on the similes and the effects. Activity four is a creative activity where pupils make a found poem from the imagery. The second half of the resource focuses on All of Me by John Legend. There are five analytical questions about the language and structure of the lyrics. Finally, pupils transform the song into a letter. A great way to introduce love poetry or texts such as Romeo and Juliet or a fun way of exploring imagery and inferential skills.

Long Division with One-Digit Divisors Scavenger Hunt Game - $3.00

Do you need a fun way for students to practice long division with minimal prep? The Long Division with One-Digit Divisors Scavenger Hunt Game gets students up and moving around while practicing math. In this activity, students use the answer to one problem to find another problem hanging around the classroom. Students will complete a total of 16 problems to create a list of explorers.
