Activities, Handouts

Teach your students to rewrite sentences without changing their meaning to achieve sentence variety. At the same time, they will be reminded of things that are associated with going back to school. Good writers vary their sentence patterns by sometimes placing phrases or clauses at the beginning of their sentences. The twenty back-to-school-themed sentences in this exercise all begin with the subject and the verb.

Statistics

 Statistics Foldable

Included is a foldable on statistics: mode, mean, median, range, minimum, maximum, upper quartile, and lower quartile. This is a great activity for any grade learning about statistics especially 6th and 7th grade. Students will love creating these foldables and it gives them a great tool to use to study!
Students will create a foldable then answer questions on the foldable. Students will construct a dot plot, histogram, and box plot. In addition, students will be giving the definitions and values for mode, mean, median, range, minimum, upper quartile, and lower quartile.

Lastly, I even included a blank template of the foldable so that you can decide if you want to give another problem or have students create their own!

You can buy this foldable at https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Statistics-Foldable-1773182

Do you need resources to help you teach statistics and probability? This bundle begins with three separate hands-on group activities. The next five activities have guided notes, guided examples, and independent practice. The ninth activity is a group activity.

This resource can guide you through your unit on teaching simple and compound probabilities.

Included in This Product:

1st Activity, 2nd Activity, 3rd Activity – Students will collect data using manipulatives and record the data on a handout. They will determine relative frequencies and compare to theoretical probability. A page of colored discs and a spinner are included.

4th Activity – Guided notes on probability terms as well as questions on the range of probabilities and the sum of probabilities are included in this activity. A separate page of independent practice is provided.

5th Activity – Guided examples on uniform and non-uniform probability models as well as independent practice make up this activity.

6th Activity – Students will learn various ways to determine the sample space with guided examples. Independent practice is included.

7th Activity – This activity has guided examples and independent practice on probabilities of compound events.

8th Activity – This activity is on using a simulation to determine probabilities that are not easily found with theoretical probability. Students will be introduced to randomly generated numbers and learn how to interpret the numbers to estimate a complex probability. Independent practice is included.

9th Activity – Five task cards are used for groups of students to design and use a simulation to estimate a probability.

Detailed teacher notes and answer keys are included.

This resource covers the 6th grade domain, Statistics and Probability. There are lessons and activities on statistical questions, dot plots, histograms, box plots, measures of center, measures of variability and other descriptions of the data set.

1st Activity – Teacher Led Activity
Students identify statistical questions. Data will be collected by the students to use in group activities after they have learned about the different ways to display the data.

2nd Activity – Dot Plots – Teacher Led Activity
The teacher will introduce dot plots as the students complete guided notes on the student handout. Students will be taught how to analyze the data by determining the mean, median, mean absolute deviation, variability, overall shape of the graph, etc. Independent practice is provided.

3rd Activity – Histograms – Teacher Led Activity
The teacher will discuss the information given on histograms. Guided practice and independent practice questions are included.

4th Activity – Box Plots – Teacher Led Activity
Guided notes keep students engaged as they learn about the 5 point summary in a box plot. They will learn how to analyze information in a box plot as well as identify the 5 point summary from a list of data values. The interquartile range (IQR) as a measure of variability is introduced. Guided practice and independent practice questions are included.

5th Activity – Compare Two Data Sets
This may be used as an independent activity or a small group activity. Students are given data and must construct two box plots on the same graph.

Detailed answer keys are included for these 5 activities.

Three Group Activities are included in the resource. Students will construct and analyze a dot plot, a histogram and a box plot.
