FREE SCIENCE LESSON - Plate Tectonics, Plate Boundaries Vocabulary, & Flash Demos Powerpoint

by The Science Vault
7th - 10th Grade
New and Improved! This is a 20 slide powerpoint - 11 slides covering Pangaea, continental drift, and plate tectonics; the focus is on plate boundary interactions and the geological features created at each. Don’t let the short size fool you: there are 10 links on the slides that link to flash animations that will give your students great visuals for the different boundaries. At the end of the powerpoint, there are seven slides with review questions.
Do you find your students turn off their brain and just copy when you use powerpoints? I've found the best way to combat this phenomena is to have the main ideas come in one at a time. For that reason, you will find that my slides have simple, quick powerpoint "actions" so that each big idea comes up when you want it to, with a simple mouse click or tap on your interactive white board. None of the actions are over-powering or distracting so your lesson presents itself in a way that students will focus on the content.

FREE MISC. LESSON - In My Garden Draw and Cut Emergent Reader

by KinderKay
Kindergarten - 2nd Grade
In My Garden
Based on Planting a Rainbow by Lois Ehlert, this emergent reader booklet encourages students to search for color words. The book is written in an emergent reader format with an emphasis on sight words and repetitive text. Students use basic drawing and cutting techniques to create some of the flowers found in the book. They have fun learning the names of the flowers, too! Blank templates are included for students to write their own words to aid in your differentiated instruction. Flowers included are: tulip, poppy, daisy, cornflower, aster, and a fern.

FREE LANGUAGE ARTS LESSON - Call of the Wild - Vocabulary Words with Sentences from Novel

by Mark Welch
7th - 9th Grade
This is a list of 351 vocabulary words from Jack London's novel, The Call of the Wild. Each vocabulary word is shown together with the sentence from the novel in which the word is first used.
The list is intended as a "starting point" for teachers seeking to extract a meaningful collection of vocabulary words. Obviously, you won't assign all 351 of these words, but instead you'll select words to fit a particular strategy or theme. For example, you might choose words that are related to a theme such as "transformation" or "animal" or "hostility/combat," or you might choose words that illustrate how words can be modified with affixes, or you might choose words which have "an unusual meaning" or "multiple meanings." Theme-related tags appear in brown. (When I taught the novel, I started by calling students' attention to the word "booming," near the start of the first chapter, and elicited their participation to identify multiple relevant meanings.)
