Misc. Lesson - "What if Everybody Did That?"

Last summer I stumbled across a book I hadn't seen before and the title immediately caught my eye. It is called What if Everybody Did That?  As I flipped through the pages I couldn't help but laugh at many of the comical illustrations.  More importantly though, I also couldn't help noticing how this book so perfectly illustrates that actions and choices have consequences.  In a very simple and fun way this book shows children the effects of their actions and why certain behaviors aren't acceptable. The oh so simple question, " What if everybody did that?" along with the clever illustrations by Colleen M. Madden drive home the point so beautifully.

What If Everybody Did That? Perfect for teaching responsibility!

If you'd like to do some extension lessons based on the book I've  put together a few simple activity pages. They include:

  • Cause & Effect Graphic Organizers
  • Templates to make your own What if Everybody Did That? class books.
  • Vocabulary Activities (choice, responsible, consequence, cause, effect, actions)
  • Reflection Writing Activities

Language Arts - Winter Theme Short Vowel vs Long Vowel Word Sorts and Flapbooks

Looking for fun and engaging Winter theme word work for your students or home schooler? This pack is a bundle of all of my Winter theme word sorts and flap books.

These word sorts and flap books provide engaging and valuable practice with short and long vowel patterns.

There are multiple Winter themed flap books to choose from (including black and white). Most of the flap books are labeled "long _ words" on one flap and "short _ words" on the other flap. Following the flap books are words for the students to cut out and sort. They are organized onto half sheets with 2 vowel patterns on each sheet. Vowel pairs are included. They lend themselves very easily to differentiation.

The word sorts require students to sort 2 short vowel patterns along with 2 long vowel patterns for a total of 4 patterns for each sort.

Language Arts Lesson-"CVC Word Sorts (No Prep)

By: Sam Van Gorp
Kindergarten-2nd Grade

Why is Word Work Important?
For students to become fully literate, they need specific knowledge about individual words.  They also need hands-on experience comparing and contrasting words by sound, pattern, and meaning so that they can easily recognize patterns of words within text.

These word sorts provide students with hands-on purposeful and engaging learning opportunities.  Differentiated instruction is also easy to implement with these word sorts because you can choose different sorts for students based on what they need to work on

Use these sorts during your word work time, for literacy centers, early finishers, interventions, or send home for practice!

There are 22 different word sorts in this product which gives students TONS of opportunities for learning!  These sorts are perfect for beginning and/or struggling readers!

Have fun with these!

Speaking of Heroes & Sale Extended

My awesome husband on the day
of the big, bad Teacher of the Year Pep Rally.
Do you remember that song by Bette Midler?
(One of my all-time favorites.)

Many days we do not FEEL like heroes. Yet, we have a lasting impact on our students. I enjoy hearing about people's favorite teacher from elementary school. I usually ask them what they really liked about that person or their style of teaching. It is fun to know what "sticks" with people when they grow up. I would imagine that those teachers are considered heroes in the minds of these people.

Speaking of Heroes...
...today I am throwing back to one of my posts last November:

"What if Teachers Were Treated Like Football Stars"
Have you seen that video yet?

While the video is funny, you may find yourself thinking, "Wow, too bad that's not true!"

Well, good news! I know of a real-life example of teachers being "cheered on" in a BIG way.

There is a "Teacher of the Year" Pep Rally that is hosted by the Business Leaders of our county. They invite all of the TOTYs from the schools in our district, the city schools, as well as the private schools and colleges that are located in the county.

It is BIG! It is LOUD! It is FUN!! And...a little bit CRAZY!

To continue reading this post on my personal blog, please click HERE.
Hopefully you will have a better perspective of how super we teachers really are! You are valued WAY more than any district could afford to pay you.

Another thing that may put a pep in your step is another day for the "Teachers are Heroes" sale on TPT! That always energizes me!

Here are the details:
Most stores are on sale...if not all.
My store is 20% off.
Extra 10% off your total order at checkout when you enter this code: HEROES

It is a great time to stock up on some of those awesome resources that you have had your eye on!

Have a super day!

"PARCC Math - 5th Grade Bundle Pack!"

By: Greg Jusinski
5th Grade

I am excited to bring this PARCC bundle pack to you.  There is such a shortage of quality PARCC resources, therefore, I created a product that will allow you to expose your students to the rigor and language of the PARCC. The problems in this bundle pack are presented as problem of the day and are great for discussions. They can be used as assessments, homework, or just about anything! You get all of the math CCSS included in this pack. I have used these in my classroom for the past few months and my students have greatly enhanced their math skills, changed their thinking, and are now justifying and modeling their work...a teacher's dream if you ask me!

The best part is that this pack also informs the teacher about certain aspects of the PARCC, such as the different question types, the language they use, and the fluency timed section. If you click the picture below it will take you to the PARCC Math Bundle at my TPT store. I also have a freebie if you'd like to try it out!
