by Scipi

Activities, Critical Thinking and Problem Solving, Handouts, Homeschool, Printables

This math resource contains ten Halloween fraction riddles which provide students practice in putting fractional parts in lowest terms as well as recognizing equivalent fractions. Specific words are provided, and the students are to figure out the correct fractional part of each particular word. (Example: The first 1/3 of LEDGER which would be LE.) If the fractional part is correctly identified, when the students write the fractional parts on the lines provided, a new word is formed. Each group of new words becomes a Halloween riddle or an answer to a riddle.

Sentence to Picture Match: Halloween is a reading comprehension activity created to be used at centers or in small groups. Students will read each sentence and match it to the picture it describes. The picture cards can be in a folder, cut apart, or placed in a pocket chart. The student will then place the sentences that describe a picture next to the picture card.

If you have a student who sounds like a good reader but does not seem to understand what is read, retelling is a good strategy that will give you insight into the student's thinking process. It is almost prep-free! Two RETELLING PROFILES, one for fiction, one for non-fiction, are included. They are very useful tools to evaluate comprehension processes of your students. A short, student self-evaluation form for retelling is also included.

Using storybooks in speech and language therapy allows us to target meaningful vocabulary and language objectives within the context of literature and well-constructed narratives. This book, "They All Saw A CAT" is great for building descriptive language skills and talking about point of view. It is a lot of fun to help kids see how the cat is viewed by each of the other animals - bigger, smaller, mean, furry.  Included in the project is a lesson plan for multiple days’ worth of activities. Use the book for up to 4 sessions; Matching cards for playing a Memory-type game; match the animal with how it saw the cat; 3 matching worksheets for matching the animal with how it saw the cat; Mix & match puzzles; and much more.  See the full details on the product page!
