FREE LANGUAGE ARTS LESSON - “Guided Writing for Halloween: My Spooky Story”

by The Teacher Treasury
3rd - 4th Grade

Directions: Read the paragraph. Then, circle the orange words that make the paragraph about what you like!

Students are given a short passage with gaps they must fill in to complete their story. Afterwards, they are told to re-write the entire paragraph including their personal selections.

I used this Halloween Writing Lesson with my 4th grade special education students to help their writing move along faster and to help spark some creative ideas for the initial part of their story.

This writing project was broken up into multiple sections. Each day students worked on adding a new paragraph to their story. When finished with their drafts, they were given a copy of My Editing Checklist and instructed to use their Personal Word Wall: Adjectives.

They were given a few days to edit their work and then copied their final drafts on decorative writing paper.

Hope this helps =)
