FREE LANGUAGE ARTS LESSON - “Character Analysis Activity: Character Maps”

by Different Drummer Secondary Resources
6th - 12th Grade

This activity can be used for any novel, however it should be reserved for students in High School. Its purpose is to encourage students to look for descriptions and analyze characteristics from direct and indirect characterization, story development, quotation analysis, and the author's purpose.

The first page has step by step, detailed instructions on how to use the boxes and the type of information that should be included within the different sized boxes. There are also specific instructions on how students should cite their information and how to appropriately include quotations from the book.

I generally use this activity for stories that have unique and complex characters whose emotional and mental characteristics are surprising and substantial enough to analyze and process.

If you enjoyed this resource, please leave feedback! I hope you find it useful to students in your class!

Thank you!
