This board game is fun for the students while they sharpen their skills and deepen their understanding of expressions and equations. They will draw a card and they must correctly answer the question in order to move along the game board. One person will be designated as the Answer Checker. The rules of the game are explained in the Preview.

Read Aloud Lesson Plan: Each Kindness

Each Kindness

    This read aloud lesson focuses on the reading comprehension strategy of inferring for the book Each Kindness by Jacqueline Woodsen. This great book teaches us to explore the idea of kindness and lost opportunities. This lesson uses the gradual release model and offers stopping points throughout the story. There is also an anchor chart for inferring. This book discusses kindness, bullying and lost opportunities.
     I love the message "Each kindness makes the world a little better."  This book is about a young girl named Maya who is new to the school.  Maya is obviously poor.  She smiles at Chloe, the narrator, who turns away.  Throughout the book, Maya makes overtures to no avail.  One day, the teacher gives a lesson on kindness and Chloe realizes what's she's done.  However, she can't 

make it up to Maya as she's moved away.

     

     My students did not like this ending.  However, I think it's great. Sometimes, you can't just make it up.  There are lost opportunities and regrets in life.

FREE MISC. LESSON - “Test Prep: Practice Filling in Those Bubbles!”

Kindergarten - 2nd Grade

This document will help teach students to only mark one answer choice per item, and how to correctly bubble in the circle (to not go outside the lines and to fill in the whole circle). The practice test can be taken alone or be read aloud. 

The test questions are not hard and are not supposed to mimic the exact layout or wording of your state’s test. There are two pages of English Language Arts and two pages of Math. Each item has 3 answer choices. 

I created this for use with the students in my special education class who do not typically take tests where they have to bubble in their answers. As a result, I marked K-2 for grade levels, but the questions are more at the kinder level.
