A menu is a content-focused set of options from which students choose activities and tasks on which to work. Students can receive a menu for a specific time-period, such as a week, for a unit of study, or for a grading cycle. Menus provide instant opportunities for differentiation because students choose which activities they would like to complete based on their own interests and ability levels.

This free resource pack includes one choice board menu related to whole number operations. To complete this board, students will need to complete all of the activities in a row, column, diagonal, or the four corners. The pack also includes additional materials needed to complete the board, including a Cover Up game, a tiling task (with reproducible tiles), detailed directions and materials for product creation, recording sheets, project templates, and a "Free Choice” proposal form.

PROJECT OVERVIEW-PURPOSE: WHAT FUN IT IS TO COLOR, BUT THESE SHEETS ARE MUCH MORE THAN JUST THAT!
THEY ARE FUN ALONE, BUT, WITH A LITTLE EXTRA WORK, THEY BECOME ADORABLE THANKSGIVING GIFT BAGS.
Giving gifts and thinking of others, is such an important learning experience for kids! And, when they can incorporate their own artistic touch, it becomes even more appreciated. This "easy-art" project does this, with only minimal preparation effort for the classroom teacher.
2 actual projects are included in the lesson:
Option #1: Using all steps, this lesson will provide the student with an experience in art, language arts, writing, and math through simple seasonal

coloring sheets, practice papers, and optional challenge pages. Many new vocabulary words will be learned. Attention to detail is encouraged. Small muscle development is enhanced in this project, as well as, both counting
and easy addition.
Option #2: Shorten the process by simply having the students complete the practice papers, and go directly to the artistic gift bags, skipping the language arts-math involvement of the challenge sheets.

Math Lesson - "4th Grade Math - Units of Measurement - Customary and Metric (4.MD.1 and 4.MD.2)"

This product will save you time as there are three teacher led lessons on customary and metric measurements. Lessons are introduced with guided notes and/or examples. Students will stay engaged as they fill in missing parts of the notes and examples. 
A hands-on activity is included to help the students learn the relationships of gallons, quarts, pints and cups.

4 Activities:

1. Teacher Led Lesson – The teacher will introduce customary and metric units of measurement involving length, weight, capacity (liquid volume), and time. Students will record the conversion factors, and they will identify the appropriate unit to be used when measuring a certain length, weight or capacity.

2. Capacity or Liquid Volume Activity – Gallon Guy will be used to show the relationships of gallons, quarts, pints and cups. This activity may be done by individuals or by a pair of students.

3. Teacher Led Lesson – Students will be taught how to convert larger measurements to smaller measurements in a single measurement system. Tables, diagrams, patterns and multiplication are used to find the equivalent measurements. Independent practice is included.

4. Teacher Led Lesson – Three guided examples are used to help the students with word problems involving measurements. Eleven independent practice problems are included.

Math Lesson - "4th Grade Math - Equivalent Fractions - Compare Fractions - 4.NF.1, 4.NF.2"

1st Activity – Equivalent Fractions (6 student pages)
This activity begins with a review of numerator, denominator, unit fraction and representing a fraction with an area model.
Guided notes and examples begin with shading figures and using a number line to determine equivalent fractions. Then, by examining sets of equivalent fractions students discover how to get equivalent fractions by multiplying the numerator and denominator by the same number. Students stay engaged as they must fill in missing parts of definitions and examples. The last page of the activity is independent practice and may be used in class or as an outside assignment.

2nd Activity – Compare Fractions (7 student pages)
The activity begins comparing fractions with models. Then fractions are compared with the same numerator or the same denominator which is a third grade standard. 
The main focus is on students changing both fractions to equivalent fractions with the same denominator in order to compare them.
Two word problems are presented with various methods of finding the solutions. 
The last page is independent practice which may be used in class or as an outside assignment. 

3rd Activity – Application Problems (3 student pages)

Detailed teacher notes and answer keys are included.

Math Lesson - "Common Core Math Activities 6th Grade (6.EE.9) Tables, Graphs, Equations"

             This product is aligned to CCSS 6.EE.9. Students are introduced to dependent and independent variables. They are asked to identify dependent and independent variables in various situations. They are required to write an equation to represent a real world situation. This objective requires the student to make a table of values and construct a graph for the data in an application problem. This resource gives much opportunity for a student to make the connection between an equation, a table and a graph.

1st Activity: Guided Notes, Guided Practice, Independent Practice 

2nd Activity: Application Problems 
These problems deal with real world situations which are represented as either a graph, a table or an equation. Students are required to give the other representations to show how data may be presented in different ways.

3rd Activity: Group Activity
Six different task cards are provided to be used with a maximum of six groups. Students will be given a situation with the data presented as either an equation, a table or a graph. The group must represent the data in the two ways that are not given on the card. Graph paper or grid chart paper along with rulers or meter sticks will be needed for the groups. See two of the task cards above.

4th Activity: Check for Understanding
A one page handout which has students represent an application problem in all three representations will check for student understanding. See this page above.

This is a thorough lesson on common core standard 6.EE.9 which will take at least two class periods. Detailed answer keys are included.
