Teaching Text Structures

Teaching Text Structures

By
Lisa Robles

Looking for a way to expose your students to text structures?  With the CCSS, students are expected to understand and be able to incorporate text structures in their writing.  In this unit, lessons begin with explicit instruction on text structures and how to identify them in text.  Then students use summary frames to see if they are applying the text structures in their own writing. Students use the six traits of writing to improve their own writing. Lessons are based on the Common Core Standards for Fifth Grade.  Lessons are formatted with the gradual release and are meant to be used during Writers' Workshop.  This will help your instruction in text structures.
